Campo Grande is the closest airport to Emas National Park, the location of the Earthwatch project. It is the capital of the Mato Grosso state wiht a population of around 650 000 people. It was the place where I met with the rest of the team....as well as with some locals...
I met the 5 fellow volounteers (I will introduce them in the next section) in the Brixtol hotel and we decided to go for dinner to Cafe Mostarda, described as the happening place in our brochure. We were having a nice meal outside when a big rain started, and we were forced to go inside, and with big reluctance (-: we had to share our table with a brazilian girl. As she was on her own, I could not furher control my gentlmanship (-: and started to test my 5 words of Portugese...she replied in English that she was waiting for her friends....and indeed every five minutes a new young Brazilian student came...Paula, Carol, Glenda, Dani...they are medecine and law students and were quite happy to meet some gringos (foreigners in Brazilian porugese)....we had a great evening, discovering among other things how Brazilian can party every day of the week in the night club Garage.

I am really impressed by the hospitality of people in Campo Grande, many thanks to my hosts here, Carol in particular.
