Our first visit to a 'real live' castle, built in the 12th century by the Normans. The most intact of it's kind remaining in Ireland. Explored nearby castle grounds with an old Medieval toll gate, and remains of a church. A fresh sight after the hubb and buzz of London. From this area, explored surrounding historical sites such as the site of St. Patrick's message of fire to surrounding Celtic chieftans with a 'younger' abbey now in ruins, and the neolithic tomb of Newgrange.
