Finally arriving in Bern I had dinner with the Head Master of the school and settled into my new home, the Villa Maria. I wasn't thrilled about it from the very beginning but knew I had to deal with it. Curfew at 10, the nuns always knew where I was at. I had to ring the doorbell to be let in the convent and there was always whispering. I wasn't sure if I could make it a month, but knew that I had no other choice. There were no cooking facilities, only a microwave and a refridgerator. There were community bathrooms and you could hear every creek in the place. The next day I slept in and the began my journey exploring Bern. I was starving but could not find the train station to get groceries. Everything is shut down on Sundays so I was quite lost and quite hungry. After finally finding the station I bought some groceries. It was tiny, hardly anything to select from. I went to buy some fruit and had no idea there was a particular way of purchasing it. no one spoke English and I felt like a fool. Needless to say I left without the fruit. I thought I could find my way back to the convent but I thought wrong. I wandered around for 2 more hours looking for the street. A 10 minute walk turned into a lot longer. I was about in tears, way beyond frustrated and happened to run into my friend from my University and a woman who worked at the school. I was so excited. They helped me find my way home and we hung out the rest of the night. I ended up going home with the lady for dinner and a few days later I ended up moving into her house. I found an amazing family! I am so fortunate. Even though there were a lot of rough times good prevailed!!!
