We stayed in a huge apartment... we had 3 bedrooms, a living room, a

dining room, a kitchen front yard and back yard.  Unfortunately

One time we just barely managed to jump on a bus out of town when they were starting fires in the streets and waving sticks at people riding bikes...

the tap water wasn't the cleanest... it came from a well in the front

yard.  One time it was distintly brown coming out of the

tap.  Needless to say, we had to boil our water before drinking

it... although we must not have boiled it long enough because I got the

worst stomach pain of my entire life there!  Cochabamba had a

pretty wide selection of good places to eat, we found a great chinese

restaurant, some tasty little typical food places that served cheap

almuerzos, a place that specialized in Salchipapas (french fries and

hot dogs) and ice cream.  The beer was not bad and very cheap as

well!  We randomly met some peace corps volunteers and ended up

watching the superbowl and eating chili with them....even got to try

munching on some coca leaves and banana ash... mmm... yummy.  At

the time, the US was not very popular because of trying to shut down

all the coca leaf producing farms.  So, we had a few incidents

downtown where people said rude things and we saw grafitti all over the

walls saying "yankees go home."  One time we just barely managed

to jump on a bus out of town when they were starting fires in the

streets and waving sticks at people riding bikes... trying to stop all

traffic and make their point known that they weren't happy.

Another thing that shocked us quite a bit was when we went to a

festival where they depicted the tower bombings with a float of two

towers and a plane on a string going back and forth between the two...

there were also men dancing all around in US soldier outfits and others

as Osama Bin Laden...  it was pretty obvious who they

favored.  Other than that, our time in Bolivia was pretty

positive... it was a great place to start learning Spanish because they

speak pretty slow and clearly.
