Today Michael, Sean and I went to Pinson Mounds. They are a series of large earth mounds built by Native Indians in around 2000 years ago.
Theory has it they were used as lookouts, but underneath the mounds, an excavation in 1982 found several tombs underneath some of the mounds.

We climbed the Sauls mound which is the highest at the site. The corners of this mound align with the cardinal directions, suggesting that possibly this mound was used as an astronomical observation platform. Michael learnt at the museum that pine needles we used as a source of vitamin C by the Indians so he tried eating some. See Pics.
