Today has been the beginning of our long planned trip. Our flight departed on June 4th from San Jose, California, went through Chicago and arrived in Glasgow, Scotland midmorning on June 5th (our 30th anniversary :-)

Driving on the wrong (oops, I mean opposite ) side of the road is a real adventure, especially at first, in our little Peugeot. I'm glad that Gary is driving as I don't think I'd be very good at it......

We drove through the beautiful Scottish countryside south through Ayr and ended at our destination, Turnberry Resort, where we will spend the next two nights. We stopped in the Ailsa Lounge (& Tea Room) and ordered sandwiches and iced tea. It has a beautiful view of the Turnberry golf courses and the coastline and lighthouse, which I might try to hike out to tomorrow while Gary is playing golf.

After lunch, we drove down the coast a ways and stopped for a little ice cream at the beach just south of Girvan. The fog had cleared a bit so we could get a partial view of Ailsa Craig.

We were both pretty jet lagged so we had a short nap and then went to the reception that was being held at the hotel in the Arran Room. It was a lovely evening visiting with some very interesting people including Sandy Lyle, who sat at our table for dinner. He has played in the Ryder Cup five times and has many interesting stories. He is playing four rounds of golf tomorrow at different courses being helicoptered to the next course all in the name of raising money for some great charities.

We stayed until sunset and I had a hard time believing it was nearly 10 p.m. and it stayed light until 10:30....... I hear it starts to get light at 3:30 a.m.!

I'll try to get some pictures and add them tomorrow or Thursday.
