Getting back to reality sure makes the time just zoom by. We’ve been planning on putting up Venice for the longest time but just started new jobs and work has been taking up all our time and energy. But we’re back in the States now, back in New York the best city in the world! And like New York, Venice is definitely unique, a city one must see at least once. Venice is an experience, a city with absolutely no cars in sight. The architecture there is just over the top. Grand, grander and grandest is the idea, but still a sight to see.

As time has passed and we’ve had a chance to reflect on Venice, it’s actually become more endearing. However, when we were there, there was just one day when the sun came out and it wasn’t cloudy and raining. It was also much colder than what we were used to along the Adriatic Coast. But the most “icky” part about Venice was the nature of the people there, especially how they treat tourists. Of all the money that they make on tourism annually, you would think they would be a bit more courteous and helpful. Most of the business owners, service industry workers and locals just seem to have this haughty air about them that really turned us off.
Venice is Definitely Unique

You should note that whenever you sit down at any outdoor café or restaurant, there will always be two menus. One for the tourists, with prices marked up around 50-70% and one for the locals. The best bet is just to swing into the café and order from the counter and take your food to an outdoor table and order your drinks there.
You should also note that if you ever enter a store and can’t find what you are looking for, the store owner will never direct you to where you can. Even if they or you know where it might be they will swear that there is none in Venice. And finally, make sure to confirm that your train or bus is indeed leaving the time it is printed to leave on the schedule. The early morning bus we needed to get to the airport was “canceled” just for that morning.

But beyond all that, we did have a great time in Venice. It is truly a unique city. The architecture, canals and wine were all great experiences and if you want to listen to some jazz check out Bacaro Jazz in San Marco district. It will probably be the only late night place open and filled with other tourists but a great spot to have some drinks. And the workers there are actually very pleasant and friendly.
Well we hope you enjoyed our little travel blog and enjoy the pics.
