I slept quite nicely last night, waking up at 11:00 Amsterdam time. As I am writing, it is 10:31 P.M here and 2:31 P.M in Calgary. I’m going to bed and everyone is moving about. How funny. So we got started off in our morning and went in search of lunch. We found a cute little place behind the New Church. They have an enormous apple pie! We are going to go there again tomorrow, although we discovered that we did not leave a tip. I hope they don’t hate us! Because I really want to try their bakery. And there is the cutest coffee shop on the Dam that we’re going to tomorrow. I don’t drink coffee normally, but I will make an exception for this place. So after lunch, we meandered about, we went in the New Church part way and start to walk up one of the main street, (I forget the name at this point, it starts with a D, Damnear?) which I dislike because there is something very dirty about it.. We decided to take a canal tour, which is like taking a tour bus except it is on water. I love the canals here. All the streets and houses are so beautiful and it was quite nice taking the view from the water. It was very hot though and we didn’t have drinks, so that put a little damper on the mood. I took quite a few pictures; they will all end up looking the same though. That’s kind of the sad thing about travel. People will never truly appriciate your photos because to them they all look the same. It is much better in person. We got off on the forth stop and went in search of the Flower Market. Our guide book said it was floating on barges so I expected them to be situated in the middle of one of the canals, but that was not the case. They seemed like normal shops lining the other side of the street, except that they were filled to the brim with tulip bulbs, pictures of tulips, real tulips, plastic tulips, tulips tulips tulips. I thought we should bring some back so we won’t be the only house in the neighbourhood without them, but sadly we didn’t. We caught the canal boat again, and toured around until the Anne Frank house stop, which is on the same canal as our hotel. I was expecting the house to be different than what I saw, as my cousin Lindsay went there a couple years ago with her school and I could have sworn that the pictures looked differently. There was a concert going on at the homo-fest, but we didn’t stay to watch. They will definatley be partying tonight! Oh! I forgot to mention that we visited the Homo-monument this morning! Or what I am assuming it to be. It is a large... I don’t know what it is made out of, not metal, maybe a dark stone? triangle situated in the middle of a square in front of what I believe to be a church. Quite contradictory. People just sit on it. I found that quite amusing. Anyways, enough of the homo-monument.
Ok... a mouse just came into my room. It was kind of cute... but still. I phoned the lady down at the desk and she didn’t seem to happy with me. It slipped back under the door though, and I don’t know where it went. They said they are sending someone up.
After we went for a rest at the
OK. The manager came in and offered us another room, but I said we’d be fine. Then he saw another one. So he is sending us ice cream! Woo!! Mom better let me eat it. And I’m hoping no mouse will be crawling on me. hahah. But I’m tired now. I think I will have to finish this tomorrow.
