Hoi An was my favourite city in Vietnam, it reminded me of Yangshou the backpacker town in China. The buildings are very old and very pretty. Most of them are kind of French looking and painted yellow. Hoi An is famous for its tailors so most of the group had suits made for them while we wewre there but I was a little dubiuos about spending money on something if i didnt like it so i gave that one a miss.

The main attraction in Hoi An is the shopping so I went a little bit mad and bought a Vietnamese Tea set amongst other things. No idea what Im going to do with it and its probably smashed to pieces because i posted it from Cambodia however its very pretty. The other thing to do in Hoi An is eat. Vietnamese food has not inspired me that much but you can get a mean burger so I cracked and ate the western stuff instead. No more bitter spinach for me, oh no. We went out for a massive group meal because everyone was starving then for a wander around the town. The hotel was beautiful, no rats, no roosters and no bed bugs which made a pleasant change.

The first evening we spent in a little local restaurant on the river where a rat ran over Lukes foot during dinner and we met the wisest looking dog ive ever seen. His name was Lopi and i wanted to buy him and take him home but i dont think he's have fitted in my backpack with all the other junk ive been lugging around.

The next day we slept in and wandered around the town having a nice peaceful day and in the evening I was taken out on my one and only first date in Vietnam. As mentioned before every afternoon in Vietnam it rains and when it rains it really really rains. By the evening it was chucking it down like nothing ive ever seen before. Luke and I walked into town and we were already drenched when it began to rain so hard it looked like id stood under a shower so we picked the first restaurant we could find. It was a big wooden building that doubled up as the owners house and there were no other customers there so we had the whole place to ourselves which was nice.It was a lucky find because the food will go down as one of the best meals ive ever had and the cocktails were pretty good too. The seafood in Vietnam is the best ive ever had, closely followed by Thailand. The only dampner on the evening was the 29 mosquito bites i got on my legs where the rain had washed away the bug spray i put on!
