First Impressions of Vancouver

What grumpy people Canadians seem to be.  First impression  very rude passport  officer.  I think they maybe they have New Zealander inferioirty complex (to the USA)

Caught a cab to hotel  - weird with the driver sitting on the  wrong side - and slept for the next 5 hours.

Wandered down to Granville (near the Canada centre) and had pizza overlooking the water.  Pretty expensive once you add the tips and GST which are not shown in the price.  Really annoying!

Proceeded to walk to Gastown and have never seen so many homeless people in one place! It was like playing dodge the homeless - everyone wanted money. Have since been warned several times to stay out of this area of town at night.

First impressions of Vancouver is that it is not as pretty  as I imaginied.  For one of the worlds most livable cities - it is all blue (all the skyscapers are aquamarine?, wet and fairly bland looking.  If fact just before you hit "downtown" (what the Canadians call the city centre) you are confronted with rows of almost Hong Kong style apartment buildings.  Maybe it will look better in the morning.

The cars and buses look like they do in the movies - lots of Dodges, SUV's and pick-ups.  Heaps of funny looking school buses too...
