I have taken a 3-day boat trip from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt. The ship is a large barco carrying vehicles as well as passengers.

We travel through Patagonia area of Chile, where dozens, if not hundreds, of islands can be found. We always sail in channels. Sometimes we have to pass through narrow passes of only dozen meters wide. But the ship company is experienced in sailing on this route.

I would say if the weather is good, the scenes would be very nice. But during the voyage, it is cloudy most of the time. We can see bottoms of mountains only.

We see Glacier Brujo and Puerto Eden where about 200 indigenous villagers are still living here (but I am told there are less indidents now) Seabirds and seals can be seen occaionally. Some passengers tell me that they have seen a whale about 100m far during the time I am having a nap.

Passengers come from different countries. It´s like a UN there, good to meet and chat with people. If you are keen in practising Spanish, you can have chats with Chilean passengers.

From the afternoon on the 2nd day, the boat has to sail into the ocean for 12 hours. The sea gets more rough. This is the worst part of the journey. According to sailors, waves reach as high as 7m, which is uncommon in the area. At night, I can hear the bangs created by the ship hitting the waves hardly. Occaionally sounds of falling objects can be heard. Water droplets keeps getting into our room via the window gap. When lying on bed, sometimes I can feel my body is thrown up into the air. Some passengers are so badly hit by sea-sickness that they keep throwing up. One of my roommate fastens her money belt in case the ship tips over. I do not have any sea-sick problems.

Thank God. God help us through. When waking up the next morning, we are in a calm channel again. It is a sunny morning. Many people stay on decks to enjoy the sunshine. Really thankful to have such a nice morning.

In an evening, we watch a movie called Survive the Island which is about the abundant wildlife in South Georgia Island in Antarctica area. Penguins and seals blanket part of the island. Quite spectacular. Will I get there one day?

At the last night, passengers have party and dance tango to celebrate we are getting close to Puerto Montt.
