EVERYONE NEEDS TO RIDE A DONKEY!!!

Apparently the Canadians in our cruise group were the most excited for donkey riding. The Aussies didn't really seem as excited for it. Maybe they get to ride donkeys all the time back home but we had been waiting for this day ever since we heard donkey riding was involved.

Because the of the cliff setting and depending on the waters, its rare that cruise ships dock in Santorini so we took a tender boat. Nothing special-just a people transport boat. No one fell out so no good stories to tell about that. We motored into Santorini with the waters behind us, looking up at the little town on top of the huge switch-backed cliff. GORGEOUS.

You had the choice to walk-up the switchbacks (eww...full of donkey poo), take a gondola up, or ride donkeys. Do you even have to ask what Steph and I did? It was so fun but the donkey herders were not amused by our excitement. The only bad part was getting donkey-tail whipped in the foot with a pee-tail and getting my foot rammed into a stone wall because donkeys are uncontrollable and can’t walk straight! I named my brown donkey Steve after TO Steve who was also extremely excited for donkey riding and Steph got a white donkey which she named Pegasus (cuz it's white...haha). The ride was bumpy and stunk real bad but the views were incredible!

Santorini was our favourite island for the donkeys and scenery (and Mykonos for partying) hands down! It was beautiful and we will definitely come back sometime-no time for the black sand beach! We did some shopping and I got some cool coasters and Steph got something for Andrew. On the cliff side, there were doorways around the town that looked like they went out to the sea if you stepped through them. But they had stairs down and around that go into the restaurant, hotel, store, etc. It’s hard to explain but we thought they were definitely photo worthy.

On the donkey ride down, our group pissed off the donkey herder by yelling, singing, and making many MANY ass-riding jokes. He made us get off the donkeys with a little ways to go so I am still not sure if it was because he was mad or cuz the donkeys needed to be herded off at that spot.

We had a gyro for dinner on the island! That word still amuses us. However, we learned from one of the Kiwis on our cruise that it's pronounced "ir-rose" but doesn't matter, we will still pronounce "gy-ro" cuz it's funnier. This was the last stop on the cruise so back to the ship, to totally take advantage of and further exploit our All-inclusive drink card one last time before we headed back to Athens to crack that 40.
