We woke up to a rather overcast morning. We met up in the hostel foyer at 9.30am for a free coastal walk with a local guide called Collin who is a retired English man now living here. He's a nice man who seems to know lots about everything and was very informative. We started off by walking on to the pier and then down on to the beach where US military veterans were planting small white crosses in the sand, one for each US military person killed in the Iraq war which was very moving. There were 16 blue crosses which were for the people who had been killed this week (they do this every Sunday) and there are now over 2,500 crosses to be put out. We walked further on the beach and headed inland and eventually up 'joggers steps' where lots of locals excercise by going up and down the steps as theres so many of them! We finished the walk about 3.5 hours later with a drink in Starbucks on 3td Street Promenade. We came back to the hostel for lunch before catching the 720 metro bus to Fairfax to go to the farmers market which is a permanent market selling fruit, veg and a big variety of food from around the world and has been going since 1934. Meg had a bunnet of strawberrys at the market whilst Andy opted for an Oreo cookies and cream milkshake from a 50's style diner. Next to the market was a nice shopping area called The Grove which we had a quick look around before catching the bus back to the hostel. After dinner we watched 'silence of the lambs' in the hostel movie room.
