Ask anyone to name a movie that features Kuala Lumpur, and I'll bet the only one they'll know about is "Entrapment" with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones. In the movie these two find themselves on the run after a botched robbery in the Petronas Twin Towers in KL. These towers are more than a landmark, they are a symbol of national pride for all Malaysians. At 452m they are currently the 2nd tallest buildings in the world after the Taipei 101 Building at 508m (which we also visited back in November and for which you can see our entry here on the Newell Post). They still hold the record for the tallest twin towers in the world, however. As you can imagine, we liked them alot.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to go inside them (unless you count the giant 6 floor mall at the base of the towers). Admission to get into the towers is free, but you still have to wait in line and buy tickets. Tickets allow you to go up to the 41st floor sky bridge that links the towers for 15 minute blocks of time. We did try to get tickets, but they were sold out by the time we got there. We were actually told that the days tickets sell out by 8:30 in the morning, that's how popular they are.

We weren't too disappointed by this, however, because we were able to go up a different tall structure: the Menara Tower. This is the 5th tallest tower in the world at 421m. Note the difference between a building which has floors and a tower that doesn't. The CN Tower (our Canadian towering symbol of pride) still holds the record for being the tallest tower on the planet at 553m.
Anyways...we went up the Menara Tower and were treated to an amazing view across all of Kuala Lumpur. And a nice city it is too. It was a beautiful day, so we could see for miles. It was also a scorcher of a day (temperature wise), so we were happy to be in airconditioned comfort!
