the 10,000 curve route
From Mexico motor trip 2006 in San Juanito, Mexico on Oct 21 '06
After lunch, heading East the road took into the mountain areas. The sky was straight blue, the mountains became higher, the sun was burning, and the road got more windy with every turn we took.
We were lucky to take this route: phenomal views, a vast area of just nature, just 10 cars on our way for 8 hours! If there are any bikers that still want to improve their "ideal curve technique": here's your road!
We crossed another time zone, and at 18:00 when the sun set, we refuelled and went on for the last stretch towards Creel. But without the sun, it rapidly became colder and colder... The cold (we were just wearing our tropical motor suits and short sleeve shirts) combined with the absolute darkness, the chance of animals jumping onto the road, made us decide not to make it all the way to Creel, but to stop for the night in San Juanito.
When we entered this little mountain town, our lungs litteraly got blocked by the heavy, dirty smog of black coles and wood fires. All houses were traditionally heated here, which was pretty obvious being out on the streets. We found a hotel, had a good dinner and after a 14 hours trip that day, had a good night rest. Tomorrow we'd drive into Copper Canyon itself!
