We arrived tonight in Phily!

We haven't seen  any of the city yet, but on our way into town we enjoyed a tour of Gettysburg and Amish country. Gettysburg was incredible! The scenery was gorgeous, far too pretty for such a terrible history.

Next, we drove through Lancaster and saw an actual Amish horse and buggy! The area was much more modern than we had expected but there are still signs of the old life. Will report on Philadelphia soon.

Love, Ben and Jessie

When we were growing up around Maryland, we would often see the Amish carriages out in the country. There were the Church Amish and the House Amish, who (if I recall) worshipped in their homes. I do remember that married men had thick beards, single men were clean-shaven, and unmarried folks rode in open carriages, even in the rain. Interesting cultural differences!! Glad you got to see this area, xoxoxo Mom
