Rome - Ruins and Debauchery
From The Journey Begins in Rome, Italy on Jun 11 '06
Rome was absolutely great. Seeing the things that we learned about in school, have seen a million movies about and read about in unlimited books!!
Day one we basically wandered the city, saw the Colloseum, the Forum and other buildings and sights around town, had a great meal of yet more pasta and wine, seems to be my staple diet of late!
On sunday we went to the Vatican not realizing that the museum part was closed.... BUT we still went into St. Peters and climbed the dome. SO great to see all the art and tombs of the popes, and the view from the dome showed the whole Vatican City, AND the pope who was giving some sort of service, very cool to see him if even from a distance, the swiss guards are hard to take seriously with their funny little outfits though!!
That night after watching the football we had perhaps my best meal yet ironically chinese food..... sooo sooo good, and very cheap! We got a few bottles of wine and dragged some Argentine and Irish boys along for a night of sightseeing and drinking. We went to Trevi fountain which was so so gorgeous, and then headed to the Colloseum again to see it floodlit and to consume more wine than healthy.......
Paid for the wine the next day when we went back to the Vatican museum where I proceeded to be violently ill in pretty much every bathroom I was so hungover. Cam wore jeans and was so hot he had to change into my sarong..... we were quite the sight let me tell you. Still amazing to see the sistine chapel roof though!! We ended up staying an extra night cause we all felt to crummy to get on a train, but that was a VERY low key night.
