h'ok  well, this was a rollercoster.........

we arrived in pakse at night, like usual the bus station is purposely way out of town so you must deal with tuktuk mofia..... every (white) person starts following us seeign wat we are going to do. tuk says 15000 kip per person(robbery) but everyone else agrees before we can even negotiate, so we are stuck, blah blah blah eventually get a guesthouse. our plan was to rent bike, go to bulivan plateau, lots of waterfalls etc really good. we shared a room with a guy we met named bryan worked out great saved the cash.  so we rent a bike, ps there is no insurance in laos..... (apparently) 80 000 kip for the day, we takes, start driving( bike had hoorrrible breaks) 2 blocks after leaving run out of gas..... end up hiking around for a while , first 2 gas stations out of gas....... get gas.... go up to plateau. the drivers here are honestly insane it was so scarey.... one lane converts into (literally) 4 lanes of bikes.... with 5th lane being on opposite side of road for people wanting to drive the other way...... meanwhile cars are passing you... really messed up... so we get to the first waterfall, was absolutely incredible..... got hussled for parking, etc ..... so we ask around and there is a way to the top of both falls so we do it.... really good hike steep steep etcs... amazing scenary, was utterly gorgeous... me and sarah swam at a pre waterfall waterfall was really really good times.... after i slipped, banged my leg bad,, really hard to walk.... okay we hungry thirsty lets go.... sarah do you have motorcycle key??? oh my god......

look around(painfully) for hour or so, no luck okay..... walk it back(very painfully) to a restaurant... after a while luckily a guy spoke enough english n stuff to explain... long story short motorcycle company drives key to us after a long waiting, 80 000 kip.... we are wet tired cold so to paksong.... its dark by now, and theres only one ritsy looking guesthouse and a hotel.... and im not driving on these roads anymore, so the ritsy guesthouse it is. it was a very nice room, etc so we go for a hot soup. we come back go to bed. in the morning go to another waterfall, it was so pretty as well, strapped for time we drive back, even scarier ride and then return bike etc.... go to pickup our big bags we stowed at our other guest house in pakse..... look in my stash wallet..... sarah do you have the money? no? no? NO!? we later conclude the guesthouse OWNER robbed me in the 20 minutes we ate...... about 200$US altogether.... SWEEET! many more things happened but keepin it short.  so police i guess.... we walk around , getting VERY bad directions and after an hour or so we find police station.... but no one speaks more than 10 words of english.. we akwardly wait in a aluminum roofed shack for a while, waiting for the "cheif" who speaks some. a britt comes out saying the same thing happened to him, and he needs to pay the cops to do an arrest.... realizing they cant do anything but arrest him(or maybe kick him a few times for an extra fee) we leave, find a tuk tuk to the bus station..... definately one for the books, ps my bum hurt the whole time(alot)

Great pictures!!!! Your story about the bike key reminded me of the time I lost my key in the underwater caves up near Tobermory - total panic until some guy heard us talking. He said he saw some keys underwater (the water is really clear there). Just had a snorkel and mask and had to free dive to 40 feet to get the keys. Bummer about the $$$ - where are the cops when you need them. Keep up with the posts..... they are a great form of entertainment. Andrew
