Saturday, the last day of our field trip we woke up, checked out of the hotel and then headed to Schonbrunn Palace. Being a Saturday the tour was somewhat hectic, but the overall experience was good. It was interesting to see where the Hapsburgs, the main ruling family of early Austria, lived. Plus, the palace was entirely extravagant and just plain HUGE! After the Schonbrunn tour I left to visit the Albertina on my own. Right now the museum is housing an exhibit of Pablo Picasso and two other prominent artists. I thought when else in my life would I have the opportunity to see an entire exhibition of Picasso. It was definitely worth the visit. It was phenomenal! Saturday afternoon our group toured the Kapuzinergruft which is the burial vault of the Hapsburg family. It was somewhat creepy, yet once again…interesting.

At 5pm we left for the Vienna airport and our flight departed at 7:15pm. However, while almost halfway to Frankfurt the pilot came on an announced our return to Vienna due to technical difficulties. Once on the ground again, however, he came back on and said it was actually a security threat. We got off the plane and boarded a bus on which another announcement came on and said someone had called in a bomb threat for our plane. For the next two hours we waited in the airport to go through intense security. We finally boarded the plane once more, arriving in Frankfurt around midnight and finally arriving in Heidelberg at 2:30am. Overall, despite the last chain of events I absolutely enjoyed our stay in Vienna and would definitely consider going back!
