If you´re fond of sand dunes....
From Lou and Bry- Off to see the World! in Huacachina, Peru on Jan 03 '09
On the 4th we headed out to the Ballestas Islands which are also known as the ´poor man´s galapagos´which were quite disappointing since we had already seen the real thing- wasn´t a patch on it at all to be honest, especially when the boat broke down half-way between the isalnds and the shore. Fun!
Then the fun began- we headed to Huacachina to the sand dunes and spent most of the afternoon plunging ourselves down some HUGE sand dunes. Wait until tyou see the pics- I look tiny compared to the monster of a hill we were boarding down! And the driver of our buggy was CRAZY! In a good way! He looked like a Spanish Kojak, and he would hurtle down the big dunes so much that I felt like I was on a Rollercoaster! Great fun! After we were finished with our kamikazi stunts, we heaed to a most beautiful spot where we watched the sun set over the dunes, then headed to where we were to set up camp. Had a great time uner the stars, a barbeque, campfires, and sleeping on sand. Absolutely Glorious!

The next day we headed towards Nazca, where the lines are! I was feeling a bit icky, so Bryan went up in the teeny plane with a few other people. Again, he has pics so you´ll see the miraculous etchings soon enough!
The next day we headed to the Chauchilla Cemetery where they have bdoies of 2000 year-old mummies with hair and nails intact. Was incredible hearing their beliefs and different ways of living. Check it out Dad and Gem, I´m sure you´ll enjoy reading about it, although it might be too gruesome for others!
Finally, we headed to the beach of Puerto Inca where we camped next to another hotel which had the most remrkable parrot, which would say ´Hola´, ´Mum´and would laugh at you if you lauighed at him! He also pressed his head against the cage for you to scratch him, a bit like Simba did when Mum and Dad first saw him!! Aaaw, I miss my doggies!
Today we´ve come to Arequipa where we can visit the Monastery and the Convent, where the nuns live in complete seclusion. Tomorrow´s events sorted then! We´ll let you know how it goes!
