Day 5: Abu Simbel, Egypt

we got up at 12:30am to pack & check out of the hotel and begin our long journey from cairo to the amazing abu simbel and then aswan.

abu simbel is impressive.  the outside was beautiful in the amber sunrise.  the huge statues in the front were enormous and amazing.  the inside chambers had incredible details and were preserved by block by block before the creation of lake nassar.  the story of the temples were romantic.  ramesses ii built the temples for nefertari, his queen.  we got there so early that we got to see the smaller temple by ourselves.

we were picked up at the aswan airport and delivered our ship for the nile cruise.   after a lot of napping, we took a fellucca trip on the nile.  it was a lovely sunset sail and a beautiful way to end an evening...
