PART TWO:

I’ll pick up right where I left off... Saturday, after lunch, we jumped back on the bus to head off to Tanger. Tanger is really unique because its the Northwestern most tip of Morocco. They call it the 2 by 2 by 2. This means there are 2 continents, 2 seas, and 2 cultures that all meet at this point. 2 continents (Africa and Europe obviously, but you can see one from the other right here!), 2 seas (Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet here, you can see a distinct line in the water!), and 2 cultures (Christianity and Islam...) Amazing. And its gorgeous. So we went to a really cool viewpoint off the cliffs looking over the beach. There’s a really neat lighthouse right there, it was just beautiful. :) Then we went to ride a camel. It was one euro to ride the camels! Mind you, we didn’t get to ride them very far, but it was way worth it. It was the strangest feeling because they are lumpy number one, but they kind of swagger when they walk... haha. And on top of that, you are up really dang high! It was great though. Definitely worth it. My camel freaked out on me when his owner tried to get him to sit down. He literally started shaking his head around, and I thought he was going to throw me. Oh my god. Talk about fright! It was hilarious. We rode camels for awhile, and I started learning to barter with these men selling jewelry right by us. (I got pretty good at it by the time we left on sunday! haha) Let’s see... We got a tour of the Medina of Tanger just like in Tetouan, but I really liked the one in Tetouan much better. Here it felt a lot more touristy. I think because its such a point of interest (the 2x2x2 and all...) But, it had a huge market and I knew we had free time to go shopping so I was determined to find some good scarves at this market... Well, I was helping my friend Alex barter with this guy, and we got a pretty good price, so I thought maybe I’d try him for scarves too, but I didn’t see any in his shop. So he asked me what I was interested in, and I told him I wanted some scarves, and he started talking about following us to another store, and so I just said forget it, and we left. Well, we came out of the next little shop, and he was standing there with 3 scarves on his arm waiting for us. He tried to barter with me in the street, and I gave him a chance, but he wanted me to pay him 20 euros for each scarf! I told him that was ridiculous, so he told me that I was smart, and he wouldn’t charge me that much because thats what he charged the tourists... but his prices weren’t good, and I didn’t love the scarves THAT much, so we started walking away, but he followed us! I’m not kidding. Trying to get my attention, I ignored him, I told him off in spanish, I told him off in english, nothing worked! Then I see this shopkeeper waving at us to come into his shop, and I’m thinking he just wants us to come in so he can get us to buy stuff, but we were desperate, hoping he wouldn’t follow us into another shop... So we come in, and the shopkeeper of that store, says to me in spanish “you don’t have to buy anything, just walk around, take a look, i won’t bother you...” It was so nice of him! He was trying to help us get away from the guy, and he was just laughing to himself... I thanked him immensely and we spent some 5 or 10 minutes in there looking around, and when we left, that man was still there with the scarves! STILL THERE. He followed us like that up and down for literally about 30 or 45 minutes. It was ridiculous. I couldn’t get a good deal on scarves anywhere, and at that point I was so ticked off that he was still around that I didn’t want to buy anything anywhere! But I learned my lesson pretty quick haha. We met back up with the group, and drove back to our hotel, had a tasty tasty dinner again, and slept like little babies. :)

This means there are 2 continents, 2 seas, and 2 cultures that all meet at this point.
