Vang Vieng: the outdoor capital of Laos. I fullfilled its claim to the name by visiting a few nearby caves and taking half a day to float down the river in a rubber tube. But I failed to complete that activity by purchasing a t-shirt, Tubing in the Vang Vieng... no reason, but it would work as a better opener when it comes to telling everyone how you came to fly off the end of a forty-metre tiled water slide, flailing through the air and crashing almost senseless into the clear river (and reclothing in a frenzy).

Aside from the awesome activities, Vang Vieng is also a stunner when it comes to natural scenery. Accross from my budget resort, a series of fine limestone mountains, sporting some whopper caves and springs, lined the opposite side of the river. Kayakers and tubers constantly float passed. Sometimes they are greeted by local children playing (naked) in the river. The kids like jumping off the ends of the kayaks.

Vang Vieng is also a stunner when it comes to natural scenery.

Not much can be said for the town itself. Every second shop seems to be a restaraunt or an internet cafe. The internet cafes in Laos appear to have their rates set in the same method as how the government set the daily currency exchange rates. The town is small but to skip passed it on any kind of travells would be a mistake.
