This morning we departed our hotel at 8am. We leave the beautiful city of Rome on route towards Pompeii. The famous city that has existed since 79 AD and it was quite an amazing experience.

city that has existed since 79 AD

The weather is sunny and warm. The drive was amazing as we drove through the Bays of Naples. It is a spectacular view as we all stumbled to the windows to take pics.

We also drive past Mt Vesuvius an active volcano in the distance.

We arrive in Pompeii at about noon and are given spare time to browse through the souvenir stores and restaurants. Our guide meets us at 1pm and we received our headsets and make our way to the city of Pompeii. Instantly we can see the remarkable structure of the buildings as we go from one street to another.

One thing noticeable is how well developed they were back 1700 years ago. In comparison to what we have, they built the structure in a way that it survived the volcanic eruption and the earthquake. Parts of the city are still in tacked. It truly is an amazing experience.

The guide takes us through the red light district area and so hard to believe the paintings on the wall have lasted since such a long time. The beds were made out from rocks.

The tour went on for almost 3 hours but it went by real quick and that was because it was so interesting.

We head towards the main street where it was explained that it was where the restaurants were and the wine stores. We also see the shopping area of Pompeii and the bakery where the oven and grinder still remains.

We are lead to a mansion that was still in good condition. The mosaic floors were in its original form and the pillars to the house were still standing.

We are lead to the bathhouse with a complete change room and bath tubes. It was very interesting to see and the marble bath was still in its original form

The tour continues for 2 hours but the time past by so quick as it was so very interesting. Our last stop was to see the bodies of victims. It was sad to see them in the final position. One had their hands cover up in the air as to try and protect himself from the falling roof. It was a sad sight.

After the tour I head to grab a souvenir book detailing everything I was fortunate to see and for 6 euros it was worth it.

We are given some free time before it was time to head so Pom and I decided we would treat ourselves to some gelato.

It was probably one of the highlights of my trip to see something as marvellous as the city of Pompeii. Will not be forgetting my experience anytime soon.
