day 6 - They build these large bamboo swings for the kids. On the last day we met up with some local kids who were trekking down and they 'pulled' us through to Pokara, otherwise I don't think we would have had the motivation. We made it there at 7pm and we started at 7am. We were pretty knackered!!!!!

During our wait for the Indian visa we looked at several options for trekking in Nepal. We decided upon the Annapurna Sanctuary - a 9 to 10 day walk up into the mountainous heartland where most of the famous peaks can be seen in panoramic vista bliss. So off we went to the registry to pay for our trekking permits.

With retrospect and incredibly sore knees - doing the 9 day trek in 6 days was something we shouldn't have done. But something inside us kept pushing us further and further along the path. So instead of stopping after 6 hours we stopped when we reached the last village we could reach. The lack of available rooms along the way was a factor, but wasn't the sole reason. I guess we were excited to go to India. On average we walked between 10-12 hours a day. It was tough stuff. Along the way we heard an avalanche - and saw the dust after we came running out of the canopy to see. Nice and dangerous.

It was an unforgettable experience and one I recommend to everyone, at least once in their lives. You don't necessarily need a guide or porter if you think it through before hand. That said the full Annapurna circuit takes nearly 3 weeks, but apparently the villages and people along the way make it all worth while. Maybe one day.
