Lunch in Detroit

Ahhhh, safe on the ground in Detroit.  Jeff & I decide to get some lunch before our flight leaves for Japan.  Yum, there was a Pizza Hut, a McDonald's, an Irish Pub . . . we kept walking.  Jeff says, "Let's get Japanese!"  Of course, I should have guessed!  I looked over the menu of the Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar.  I suddenly wasn't very hungry.  I ordered Miso (soup).  I figured that was safe.  Jeff ordered some kind of Ramen - but let me tell you - this was NOT the Ramen our kids eat!!  His Ramen was topped with sliced cooked pork, sliced hard-boiled eggs, seaweed & something that looked like watercress sticks!!  I was thinking, "I'm so glad I just ordered regular Miso."

Until I tasted it....I thought I had just swallowed the dirty water from a goldfish bowl!!  UGH!  Let me describe it. . . . .white chunks of something (I was afraid to ask).  I think it was hard-boiled egg whites or maybe tofu??  ...lots of sliced green onions....& SEAWEED!!!  I soon figured out that if I avoided the seaweed & ate only the green onion & broth, it killed the flavor of the dirty goldfish water!  And alas, my Japanese food adventure has begun!!!  I am entering this adventure with an open mind, but I'm seriously worried about the food!

...dirty goldfish water

Until you tasted it? I always call Miso soup dirty dishwater. Funny thing is, before I broke down and joined the site (dang you) on the previous entry, I was going to tell you that while in China the site of both a MacDonald's and a Pizza Hut never looked so good until after a week of eating too many unknowns. I can't believe you passed them up for Japanese before you even got to Japan. How long will you be there?!!!

Miso is the nastiest stuff, I agree - you're in for some good food, baby. I think the smell is the worst. Right before I left I would have ordered the biggest bag of fries I could get - your last chance!

Are you sure we're spelling "tonticular" correctly? Hey Sid, patience, I can't feed you all the good stuff at once. I'm spoon feeding you - besides, I can only go w/o sleep for so long!!

Oops, you're right (as usual) 'Tonsillar' is the correct term. ;)

Hey, Lynn. I'll be here until Sunday. I can't believe it's already Thursday (2 a.m.). I really need to get to bed, but this blogging is obsessive. See guys, this is why I don't do this at home - too time consuming!!
