Hi All,

So we finally arrived in Bangkok….much awaited after a delayed flight and feeling hot, sweaty & tired, only to be greeted by a custom official with a piece of paper with our names on it. Paranoia hit…what the hell had we done??? Still not sure what but something about updating our tickets?? Paranoia was to hit a second time when one of our bags came off the conveyer belt open. Anyway, finally got through the airport and into the madness and mayhem which is Bangkok!

First night there and we headed out for a bite to eat – the choice of places to eat is incredible! Between restaurants, street stalls and café bars you could wander for hours. We settled on a cool terraced café bar and had our first authentic Thai curry and pad thai washed down with a couple of beer Changs all for the bargain price of about six euros! We love this place already – I mean how much do we like our food and beer!!!!

After dinner we went for a wander down the notorious Khao San Road. We didn’t know what had hit us, it is a sight to behold. You really don’t have to bring anything with you as you can buy everything, and we mean everything down there for pennies. You need a lot of energy and patience for this street as you are constantly bugged to go on a Tuk Tuk tour “5 Baht, pretty lady we show you nice tour….” No thanks!! However, after a much needed nights rest we decided to brave the famous Tuk Tuks and head for a spin around. Our driver was insane but funny – we are thankful to live and tell the tale!

As yet we haven’t gone to any of the temples around the city as we’re going to see them when we meet with the lads at the end of April but we have been around Chinatown which is possibly the maddest place we have ever been – the combination of noise and smells is bearable only for a short time and the pollution was particularly suffocating – all of the Tuk Tuk drivers wear the masks and now we know why! It’s probably a bit crazier at the moment as the preparations for Chinese New Year are in full swing – it’s on the 29th of this month.

So really these few days have been spent wandering and soaking up the atmosphere as well as recovering from the journey!

That’s all for now – we’re off on a 13 hour overnight train journey to Chiang Mai in a few hours so will let you know how we get on. So looking forward to it!

Chat soon dudes!

Lou & Niamh xx
