Tarragona

The last weekend in January we went to Tarragona with our program, it’s about a 2 hour drive from Barca. Tarragona is this small community of 75,000 people that live inside an old roman wall. So we took a tour of the town and saw old cannons, and walked along the wall. They have their own huge cathedral in the middle of town that sits above it all. We also got to sit in the old amphitheatre that was just recently discovered there, which has an old church in the middle of it which is there to symbolize the Christian lives that were lost in the ring of the amphitheatre. So we walked around this small beautiful town that feels vacant. We were there during their siesta time so it was very quiet and bare, I got some really amazing pictures this trip. I developed an obsession with doors this trip haha there was every color, size, shape of door you could ever imagine in this town. Funny story – so Talia and I went to find somewhere to eat and everything either sounded disgusting or too expensive, so we go to this bar that has sandwiches with French fries, so were thinking it’ll be good. I order something that comes with bacon and eggs (?) and fries and some kind of meat, whatever, I’m in spain I’ll try it all (plus I thought it was like a BLT, and I would just take the egg off). And Talia gets the lamb (?) with peppers and fries….we’re assuming its some kind of sandwhich. Nope, its just that. It was so gnarly. But we had to eat it because we were starving, and it wasn’t free – it was definitely an experience. We were pretty grossed out, and everything is coated in oil, but we laugh about it now. So after that we walked around trying to find a wine store open to buy a bottle of wine, because I guess Tarragona grows a special grape and the wine is delicious and you can’t find it anywhere else – but it’s siesta time, so nothings open. We run into some friends at a Creperia, Chloe just finished hers….nutella with ice cream, whipped cream and an orange liquor drizzled on top. We have to have one! It was delicious, and when he brought out the liquor he lit it on fire for us. It was amazing, and he even sold us a reserved bottle of wine for 9 euros! Tarragona was a beautiful town, with bad food, good wine and delicious desserts!
