I originally went to Nashville, TN for my sister’s graduation, but I could not pass up an opportunity to check out one of the cities parks. Thus I found myself at Centennial Park on a hot and muggy afternoon. The park itself is mainly just a green space for the city of Nashville, though it does hold some interesting concrete landscape.
The first and most prominent concrete piece of art in Centennial Park is the Parthenon. It was originally built in 1897 for the Centennial Exposition, and is now an art museum for the city. Though I did not go inside to the art museum I did find the outside magnificent with the ray burst tiling on the ceiling of the Parthenon. Nature provided its own art piece on the outside when I found this moth relaxing in the shade from the hot sun. I believe this is the Polyphermus Moth, and one can see the fake eyes on the back of its wings to scare away potential predators.
We are not in Athens anymore!

The second concrete artwork found in Centennial Park is this odd replica of an old boat. The reason I say odd is that it is only half of a boat. I didn’t see a plaque or anything describing what it was, or its purpose in the park. Close by is the artificial lake named Lake Watauga. There is a small path that follows along Lake Watauga. On the day I went this was the most active area for people walking their dogs.
Overall, Centennial Park is a great park to escape the city for a nice picnic, to walk your dogs, or just to get some sun. Though I would recommend bringing a bottle of water as Nashville can get very muggy and hot. Additionally, the park is also setup for Wi-Fi access so you can write your travel blog and experiences as they happen.
