Visited ground zero. The site is huge - a building site now, deep in the ground. A big bronze plaque commemerating the hundreds of firemen who died. Two girders in the shape of a cross formed from the wreckage. Hard to believe.
After ground zero, I walked up to Greenwich Village. A lovely leafy residential district. A street market on Bleeker Street, and loads going on in Washington Square including 2 guys playing guitar and singing to an enthusiastic audience. Very mellow way to let the afternoon drift into evening. I liked GV and returned several times. I later met someone who lived there and said it has changed, become yuppified. Still seemed to have a nice vibe.
Very mellow...
