The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a small and the highlights are easily covered in a short visit.

We were deceived by the sunshine and blue sky and under dressed for what was in reality one of the coldest days of our trip!

We started our Luxembourg tour in the American Military Cemetery.  A grand place, filled with thousands of while crosses and a small chapel.  General George S Patton is buried here.  From here we went to the German Military Cemetery, an understated memorial in sharp contrast to the grand american one.

From here we headed to the northern market town of Esch-sur-Sûre which is nearly completely surrounded by a natural moat of the river Sûre

Heading back south we visited the medieval castle Bourscheid, perched high on an isolated cliff top, 150 meters above the level of the river Sûre and 370 meters above sea level.  The remaining ruins testify to an impressive fortification surrounded by a massive ring wall with 11 watchtowers.  We all really enjoyed exploring these ruins and Grace was certian that this was going to be her new home, even though I tried to explain to her that it would be very cold to sleep there!

So back into town we headed and enjoyed lunch in a cosy french cafe before exploring the historic area of town and doing a bit of shopping.

We really enjoyed Luxembourg, we had great accommodation and it was very easy to get around.
