I woke up today feeling pretty sad because it was my last day in Calgary, a place where I’ve settled in so comfortably like home. Random thoughts of time here flickered through my mind, things I have accomplished, people I have met, struggles I found myself in. It all ran through my mind like a slideshow.

I rolled up clothes and packed them in my backpack as I was reminiscing past events. A once full wardrobe was now empty. A once rubbish filled floor was now clean. A bed once piled full of worn clothes was now clear with just a pillow and sheets. It felt exactly like the day I left Melbourne. Sad but excited at the same time. Sad knowing that I won’t see the friends that I have made after today for maybe a long time. But excited to be traveling to see what else this adventure of mine will present. But above all, it was a happy day, a day where my roommate Yestyn was to wed his fiancée, a Canadian girl Robin.

My bags were half packed when Jimmy picked me up to go to Yestyn’s wedding. We drove back to Jimmy’s house and I rambled through his wardrobe and picked out a yellow shirt with white pin stripes, a funky yellow tie and a navy blue pin stripe suit jacket. I changed into it and I made myself look somewhat half decent for a wedding, the only thing I didn’t like was the clonky black shoes that made me look like I was wearing bricks on my feet. But that’s okay. Once we made ourselves look pretty, we swung by Tierah’s house and picked her up too, then we drove down to Yestyn’s wedding ceremony held at the Foothills Alliance Church. Following this, we had a couple of hours to spare before making it to the wedding reception for dinner. So Tierah, Jimmy and I went to grab a small bite at Wendy’s and went for a coffee at Starbucks. This is what gave me the idea of getting a Starbucks card for Matt as a going away present, just for being the best boss, friend and roommate ever. We lazed around and chit-chatted for a while in Starbucks before driving to the wedding reception.

At the wedding reception, we drank, danced and heard stories of Yestyn and Robin. Of all the months that I’ve lived with Yestyn, I’ve never seen him smile as much as he did tonight. It was like his smiled was permanently glued on his face. I was happy for him though, especially seeing how much stress he went through organising the wedding day in and day out over the past few months. Anyhow one of the novelties that the best man came up with was a huge dice, with 6 faces and each face meant something different. Three faces had lips which meant that the bride and groom had to pash, X meant the person rolling the dice had to kiss somebody, then O meant the roller had to hug somebody and ? meant that the best man gets to chose what was to happen.

As midnight hit, Jimmy, Tierah and I decided to call it a night. We dropped Tierah off at her house and then Jimmy and I decided to have one last coffee/tea at Tim Hortons together. We also called Trach out to join us who has become also like a best friend to me like Jimmy has. So there we were at Tim Hortons, having a yarn like we always do about some random topic until time past into the wee hours of the morning. Then we decided to call it a night at 3am. I said goodbye to Trach and then Jimmy drove me home. Once outside my house, Jimmy and I had another yarn for a further 20 minutes, somehow when we first met we clicked right away so he has grown to become like a best friend and brother to me. So I’ll sure miss him. We then said our goodbyes with a hug and parted ways knowing that the next time we see each other could be a long time away.
