My first days in Bergen
From Studying for 6 months in Bergen in Bergen, Norway on Jan 08 '09
Hey everyone,
finally, I have internet connection in my room and therefore I am finally able to write again :))
first experience with the Norwegian climate
Travelling to Bergen on Monday went quiet well and despite my earlier worries I only had 23kg in my suitcase and nobody said anything about my 3 pieces of handluggage! However, it still was a lot to carry as we had to take the bus from the airport to the city center and then to our dormitories which are on a hilltop so we had to carry all our luggage up the mountain, in the dark and through snow and ice. So, that was our first experience with the Norwegian climate, which until now is quiet nice I think. It only rained once and tonight it snowed so everything is white now and cold! But that's really dangerous as yesterdays wet streets froze last night and the snow covers all the ice, so walking down the steep streets to the school is quiet slipery and adventurous and you're really amazed when Norwegian girls pass you on high heels just as if it's nothing :))
My room here is OK, it is about 12m² and I have my own bathroom. But everything is really old and worn down and I have to share the kitchen with 9 others from my floor, and you don't even want to know how it looks like...really grose!! But we'll see what happens when all the other students come back this weekend as the kitchen is supposed to be THE social place!!
Yesterday, we also had our first trip to the local IKEA to supply ourselves with blankets, pillows, cooking gear and other stuff to brighten up the room and now it actually looks like a dorm and not like a prison cell :))

Oh yes, and I wanted to appologize that you all had to sign up on this website in order to write me a message (which I really appreciate, thank you :)). I wasn't aware of that until Richard told me. I thought that you could just write on my blog, so I am really sorry for that!! And you can write me in any language you like :)) I am only too lazy, so I chose English as everyone understands that :))
Well, I hope to write again next week when school actually started and I survived the welcome week as they planned lots of parties and that kinda stuff for all the international students!!
Take care, Christien
