We arrived in Venice by train at about 9:30 at night. When we got off the train we were immediately greeted by the magnificent waterways of Venice! Unfortunately, within moments of our arrival we also witnessed a fight in front of the train station. The police, however, quickly broke it up. After purchasing a three day pass on Venice's public water taxi system we headed to our place- Collegio Armeno Moorat Raphael. This was by far the worst accomodations yet: thin walls, terrible beds, small room, no air conditioning or fan provided, hallways that looked like construction sites, etc- it was literally a junky dorm room, worse than any dorm either of us have ever seen. It was, however, the only affordable option in Venice and beggars can't be choosers-if it wasnt for the bell tower that rang for about 10 minutes every hour we probably wouldnt have minded all that much.
Anyways, our first night in Venice we spent exploring the piazzas around our place and enjoyed some wine and bear at one of the piazza cafes. Venicians sat amongst us, we chatted, and listened to music in the background. After this, we went to bed and didn't get much sleep thanks to the bell tower & extreme heat. Oh well, we are in Venice- no complaints!
