So we arrived in Langkawi in the dark on June 8 and thought we might walk to find a hostel until we got outside and only saw highway for as far as we could see. We decided to take a cab to the closest major hotel within walking distance to some cheaper places. This worked out well besides the fact that we declined a ride with a random guy because we thought he might be trying to rip us off, but then paid the same price for a real taxi and had to wait an extra 20 minutes or so. We went to a couple of different chalets and decided to stay at a place called the gecko because the room had air-con and was a decent price. The next morning, however, we decided to leave because the bed litterally had springs coming out of it and the roosters were crazy! So we went and and looked around at our different options, without our bags (always a nice touch), and found a hotel that had hot water, air-con, and a comfortable bed for only 10 more ringette (the fact that there was so little water pressure that the shower didn't really work didn't matter during those first few nice hot showers!). So we checked in there and it felt like we were staying in a five star hotel compared to where we have been staying. Then we went down to the beach and had a good swim. For supper Chad had Green Curry Chicken and it was really green! It looked almost like the TMNT Ooze from Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze. The Sunsets here are beautiful, so every night we go to a cafe on the beach so we can watch them. One night I had this really good drink called a Langkawi Sunset, you put mango juice in the bottom and then red wine on top over ice, then mix it together. It kinda tastes like grape juice but not as sweet. For two of the three nights we had tandori and nan bread for supper because it was excellent! And even better...cheap! On our last day here we rented a scooter and went all around the island. It was AWESOME! We firstly had to find as gas station, which was harder than one might think to find, we probably drove past two before we found one, but it only cost us $3 for the whole day for gas. We then were determined to find the crocodile farm and likely drove past the very poor signage 3 times. But when we did find it, it was worth it because we saw some very large crocodiles. We waited around to see a feeding and it only lasted like 2 minuets...but at least we got to see some movement because crocodiles are really lazy, they just lie there! Then we made our way to the Langkawi waterfall that was beautiful and was man made. The view from the top was also very nice. We continued to cruz the island in the rain and the sun. Good thing we brought our rain coats because getting pelted with rain hurts. We also drove through a town so actually had to drive along with other people which was fun and challenging at the same time. By the end of the day both Chad and I were sore from sitting on the bike all day and were happy to return it. But it was awesome! Today, June 12, we are leaving Langkawi and are off to Banhkok.
