Arrival.
From Arrival. in Londonderry, United Kingdom on Jun 19 '07
I have arrived.
I got off the plane, and walked, excitedly, past "customs" on the way to the passport checking station (customs was a red phone on the wall, where you called people to declare goods). So, I then waited for about four minutes in line behind the people who sat behind me on the Newark flight. There were to little kids with their mother, visiting their grandparents. The little boy's name was Mark, and he loved his blanket.
You would be suprised here, how different it is from America.
But I digress. The man at the counter greeted me, "So what do you think you're doing here?" He continued to angirly question me for a while. I got past, but, he didn't seem to want me there. I suppose that going to Ireland for "missions" brings up a bit of conflict. I never would have expected it, but it feels like there's a bit of tension here, that is unspoked of. But, nonetheless, everything here is great. We've been to two different schools with a team from Pennsylvania. The kids seem to really like Americans. I still haven't quite decided if that's a national feeling, or just a Child-like fascination.
So, that's been my first couple days in Derry. You would be suprised here, how different it is from America. The language is alot more different than I had expected. There's a lot of "Derry-isms" here. And suprisingly engough, tea time is actually a pretty big deal here. That's pretty much all I've had to drink so far. TEA.
