So The bus stopped and I went off to the bar to drown my fears and terror, while the friendly staff helped my wife to get our luggage to our room. Luckily she understood and did this with a smile - hell she had enough help as it is, I would have been in the way in any event.

To my surprise the bar sold South African beers and I made a big effort of drowning the terror. After a time, wify joined me and we sat talking about this and that enjoying one another's company, the sea views and the fresh sea air rolling into the bar.

Later when I had my nerves back under control she went to show me our suite and boy was I impressed. It was huge!

Airconditioned, king size bed, lounge chairs, TV, writing table, exquisite bathroom with petals in the bath, the stuff that made my wife's toes curl etc, etc.

We were phoned to tell us that we shouldn't be late for dinner and that it was an Asian themed occasion that evening. Again wify swooned - a fact that I loved as that way I knew that I'm going to get what I want too and yes you're right, I'm not talking about food or watching TV.

The dinner that night was gorgeous, she loved it, I got what I wanted and the sign on the door the next morning saying we were going to sleep in was a lie.

Late morning saw us on the beach after a excellent breakfast and I loved the fact that I could rub oil on my wife's body unashamedly enjoying every moment of it. (She wasn't a finalist of the Miss South Africa competition for nothing!)

We tanned a while and I got restless, we were on honeymoon and holiday, I wanted to do something, wanted to explore the island and places on it.

I left her on the beach as she wasn't finished tanning and I went to the reception to find out what we could do. The receptionist was very friendly and told me to look at the brochure stand to see what I fancied. This I didn't quite like as I wanted her as a local to make suggestions, she wouldn't and eventually I had a look at the various brochures.

I decided on booking a trip to Port Louis, the capitol, Casuarina Park a type of animal sanctuary and Mt. Chamel or coloured earth site.

The receptionist took the bookings and told me that she'll arrange for everything, I didn't want to go back to the beach so I booked myself in for a massage.

That night we danced with the Creole girls on the beach, had a true Mauritian Creole feast and then we met up with a German couple and a girl friend of theirs traveling with them.

They apparently also booked the same trips I did and we decided on doing the trips together.

Now let me tell you, no matter where you travel to on this island, it will take you 45 minutes to an hour and all of it on those narrow, little tracks the Mauritians call highways.

The five of us traveled together and to the Germans it was awesome to see all the sights and places, to us as South Africans it was more or less nothing new. I for one was very disappointed at the animal sanctuary and at Mt. Chamel.

As far as I'm concerned if you've seen one dodgy zoo, you've been upset enough for one life time, this Casuarina Park was nothing different from being just another upsetting dodgy zoo, the animal sanctuary they so proudly advertised - no sign of that.

Mt. Chamel is just what they said - different coloured mounts of earth lying around. There's a pink one and a yellow one and brown one and a white one and they all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look almost the same!

Back at the hotel the days were spent either on the beach dodging the hawkers that tried selling you everything and anything or doing some type or form of water sport.

This included diving, snorkeling, bell diving, swimming, water skiing and diving, snorkeling, bell diving and swimming. Wify did discover that she could be hooked up to a parachute which is hooked up to a speed boat and then you could see the above mentioned from the air.

The two weeks passed very slowly and I decided Mauritius is for water lovers, I'm not one of them and although I love speed; a highway should be wide enough to give one and all space enough to drive the way they want too, it should not be a little narrow track.

So yes, sorry to say, but Mauritius will not see me again, not even for a honeymoon with a gorgeous blonde woman.
