We gathered at 4:00 pm atop the bluffs. The sun was hot, but the breeze refreshed us. I don't know if this is what Meriweather Lewis and William Clark had in mind for this site. but it's a lovely place for a wedding.  We watched hawks glide out over the valley as Ryan and Kristina exchanged vows.

Ryan's daughter Shawna made a beautiful (and accomplished) flower girl.  Kristina's brother Jason was a dedicated ring bearer, braving the hot sun in a dark suit. Ryan's sister Lisa was among the bridesmaids and Roxanne's brother Randy was a groomsman.

After the ceremony we drove down the hill to the Iowa National Guard Armory for the reception. The colors of deep pink, lollipop orange and bright yellow were repeated in the decorations and the homemade buttercreams. Next to the wedding cake, Ryan's "Batman!" groom's cake almost stole the show.

Everyone ate and visited, of course. The food was all homemade fare, pulled pork and potato salad. Soon the music began and Ryan and Kristina had their "first dance."

The Coon Rapids crowd (Bonnie, Jodi, Kylee & Joe) had to drive home that night, so when they left we headed back to our hotel. The reports we got the next day were full of Poppa (Ron) dancing the Hokeypokey and possibly the Chicken Dance with his granddaughters.

The next day (Sunday) we spent with Ron and Roxanne. Lisa and her girls joined us and the girls had fun in the pool. It was a lovely weekend, a memorable wedding and another reason for us feel old. I couldn't help thinking of Ryan as a small boy sitting on our sofa in Norway, Michigan, with his siblings and taking farting lessons from Grandpa. Ah, the good old days.

See you at our next event and May God Bless.
