On the Monday we went to the Luge, up one of the mountains near our hostel. All was going well as we flew down the mountain with, as expected, much contesting and jostling for positions along the way. Unfortunately Dell was a little over excited and in a bid to overtake me (people don’t often get that chance!), forgot to stop at the slowing chicane at the end of the track. This sent him flying from his cart into the next lane, using his forearm as a brake. And thus ended his luging career. The views from the top of the mountain were truly spectacular though which soothed the pain and our lunch atop the mountain was very special indeed.

On the way back to our hotel we stumbled across an indoor mini golf course of epic proportion. It was without doubt the best course we’ve ever seen on our travels. Holes included an Airport, a Space Station with a 7ft rocket that took off when you putted through it, cable cars that transported your ball up a mountain before it took a piste down again towards the hole and a fairground. The final hole spat out a lolly in exchange for your putted ball. We were even given a free cup of tea at the end!!

We ended our time in Queenstown with a night of free pool so that we were fresh for our long drive to Frans Josef the next day. All in all it was probably one of the best places of the New Zealand leg of the tour and although expensive, definitely worth while, a once in a life time experience.
