Got the train, 2 hours from Sydney to Katoomba, the main base for short erxcursions to the Blue Mountains. The journey itself was lovely travelling through little towns (that looked like something off the Sullivans) and through eucalyptus forests.

After arriving in our lovely hostel and dumping our stuff in our double room, we hired some moutain bikes to explore the scenery of the Blue Mountains. After getting a little lost we asked a local fella for directions and he advised us against any more riding that day as a storm was brewing. We didnt heed his advice and got completely drenched through to the skin. Hailstones bloody hurt when your cycling through them wearing vest and shorts!

We dried out and did our best to see the stunny valleys and rock formations that we'd heard about. We saw some of it, but not long after the heavens roared, then dropped another biblical load of rain and hail that had vehicles stopped in the tracks and drenched us for the second time that afternoon.

The second day we had more luck and did a lovely days hike - or bushwalk - as its called in these parts - along craggy cliff faces overlooking enormous swathes of wilderness. The views were stunning and just as importantly, so was the weather!

(Australians aren't bothered about the weather like we are. the weather forecasts are laughable - giving broad forecasts for an entire continent).

We wouldve liked another day here, but saw the best of it and headed back to Sydney for the Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras!
