Midnight and we were sitting in the club with Grady performing as my birthday started that night.  The music was great with a powerful beat and great lyrics.  Jay was really enjoying the music and by the end of the night Bern and I went right up to the front to enjoy it right upclose.

On the way home we saw a few girls that were partaking in RUSS.  All throughout Norway every student in their final year goes threw RUSS and they wear these red pants and decorate them.  They have to perform stunt for the 20days before May 17th which is  the biggest day to  celebrate in Norway.

Getting up early on a birthday morning is not ussually that exciting, but today it was because we were starting out Norway in a Nutshell tour.  We caught our train from Bergen up to Voss where we ended up meeting David and Blair from Nova Scotia and had a good chat with them.  Then, the next section of the trip was by bus to Gudvangen.  This was gorgeous.  The lakes were partly frosted over and the waterfalls were everywhere you looked.  We came out of one long tunnel and it seemed like a second, but you could see one of the most breathtaking, jagged, lush fjords that I saw on the whole trip.  As we made our way down the fjords they were getting taller and taller and more monstrous as time passed.  After the 1 1/2 bus ride we were to hop on the boat cruise portion.  Now, this I was really excited for because we would be right next to the fjords and able to see them from a different perspective.  The cruise goes threw one of the narrowest parts of the fjords.

It was a cute little boat that we all piled onto and grabbed a chair.  Words cannot describe the calmness of the water with the sheer overpowering size of the fjords that are over 500-600ft. on either side of you.  You start to wonder if everything is real it is so beautiful and pristine.  Three hours has gone by and slowly we approached our destination.  It was the cutest little town called Flam.

We were staying at Flam Camping and had this adorable room with our own kitchen and everything.  Not to mention the view from our window was spectacular.  As you look out you can see 3 different waterfalls and the fjords are just beyond imaginable.  I was in heaven.  Peace and quite and all the nature I could want.

Bern had picked up some matches and we had bought some big chocolate muffins the other day and so we had my birthday cake.  Oh... it was so good.  Drizzled in chocolate and chocolate chips on top.  Then it was present time.  I got this beautiful picutre of pink tulips with windmills in the background that I had fallen in love with when we were at Keukenhof and then a calendar of David.  Ahhh.. it was perfect.

It was time to get ready for our dinner reservations at the Freitheim Resort.  It was incredibly high class, so we wanted to look our best.  We got into the resort and we had a table right at the window overlooking the fjords.  I think I was speechless.  Now, the ordering.  The menu looked so good, but there was one thing that caught my eye and that was the Salmon and Halibat with potatoes, vegetables in a mussel sauce.  How could you not want that? It melted in my mouth.  Probably the best halibat I've ever had.  Now Bern went with the Roasted Reindeer with cowberry sauce.  Yes, we got to eat part of Rudolphs family, but was it ever worth it.  I think that will be one of those once in a lifetime things.  And for dessert, we had a white chocolate mousse with a rhubarb sorbet....ahhhh dessert.   Now that was a meal to remember.

What a birthday.  I have to say this will be one never to forget.  It was perfect in everyway.
