Crossing Bass Strait
From Exploring mainland Australia in Devonport, Australia on Mar 17 '07
We said our goodbyes and left Kingston without too many tears. Thanks to everyone for their kind goodluck wishes and advice - we are sure it will help us on our way.
We spent Saturday night at Turner's Beach visiting Brendan's family before heading to Devonport on Sunday for our night sailing on the Spirit of Tasmania. The boat trip was very smooth, but both Bren and I had a terrible time trying to sleep in the passenger seats. After only a few hours sleep we drove off the boat in Melbourne at around 8am. We called Bren's Aunt Katherine and got directions to her work - we made it there in Monday morning traffic with only a street directory to help us! We picked up her spare house keys then drove ourselves to her flat in Essendon were we promptly went to bed to get some sleep and recover from our 'boat lag'.
That night Aiden took us out to The Comic's Lounge to seeing several comedians... including none other than Chopper Reed! Bren was excited to see 'uncle Chop Chop' as were Remco and Carly who were in Melbourne for the Formula One. It was a great night out and Bren even payed the demanded $5 to get his photo taken with Chopper.
We ended up spending two nights in Melbourne, enjoying dinner at an Italian restaurant with Katherine on our second night in the city. We set off for Geelong early on Wednesday afternoon.
