Day 73-101 Punjab – Amritsar / Anandpur Sahib / Methiana

Today we made our way home – very long journey. We left Thrivandrum early morning and arrived at Dehli around mid-day. We then had a 9 hour taxi ride to Jalandhar (Punjab). It was a killer journey – and our taxi driver was getting high – thinking that we didn't know as well as having the odd swig here and there – it was a scary drive home as there were a few times we nearly had an accident.

It's such a spiritual place for Sikhs

Anyway, we surprised the folks as we showed up earlier than planned. They were soooooo happy to see us and it was great being home and having home made food after such a long time. Jag's mum and I did a lot of wedding shopping for Nindi's wedding (Jag's brother). Catching up with rellies and relaxing. We went to Amritsar or the Golden Temple as some people know it. It's such a spiritual place for Sikhs. It was 'Hola Mahala' at the beginning of March – a day when Indians throw coloured powder on each other – there's a meaning behind this which I will explain when I get back if you want to find out why. We went to Anandpur Sahib – the birth place of Khalsa – the Sikh religion – to celebrate. There was thousands and thousands of people here, a real buzz. We also went to Methiana Gurudwara which has statues displaying the Sikh history and the sacrifices and killings we faced to establish Sikhism.

I also did a pit stop visit to the UK for around 6 days to see my cousin sister's wedding. Was great catching up with the family.
