I am sure noone will disagree that every city in the world has some special beauty to it(NYC,Toronto,Paris,San Fran and Tokyo among my favourties) and also plenty things to avoid. Riga is no different. But here is an objectice thought, that might help you when choosing if you want Riga to be your travel destitation:

1.Riga is over 800 years old.

"Cool Runnings!"

You will say that all Europe is that old. True..but Riga has been ruled by almost every nations in Europe (joke, of course not every, but most powerful ones and historicaly very important).You can track time, dictator, tzar, war influence in Riga architechture, food, drinks, fashion, faces, and overall vibe of the city. I really enjoyed the Latvian Occupational Museum(free entry) and the climp up the Dumo to marvel at the 360degree view of Riga.  There is also a fascinating market in the old war aircraft hangers! I wandered around there for hours(also keeps you out of the cold!)

2.Rigans are VERY friendly. They might not look too friendly at first sight, but their souls are genuine and most speak good English.

3. Make friends with Rigans and you will be invited to the party you will NEVER FORGET!! They certainly are the party city!I am still recovering from the non stop party scence and vokda shooters!! When in Latvia do as the Latvians do-DRINK DRINK DRINK!

So if you are looking for a architecture, history, beautiful people, good times, and 5* services for the price of 3* you should definately give Riga a try.

And dont forget your thermals if you go in the winter its blinking "Baltic"

PS- you MUST give the Olympic bobsled run a go, It's Awesome and there are only 10 places in the World where you can do this! You get taken down the run by a  member of the Latvian team. I got the jump seat(right behind the pilot guy or whatever you call him!! I was given very strick instructions that i MUST NOT hit my helmet off of his AT ANYTIME  as it is very dangerous!! True i didnt want to knock the pilot unconscious as we hurlted down the run at over 140mph!  It was easier said than done but i managed not to batter my heid off of his!And we did a bit of battering up the slopes of the run!As you hit the last corner named ''The Wall'' for obvious reasons, you can hit up to 7G!!  Its a great adrenaline rush. i felt like i was in  the movie "Cool Runnings" haha GOT DO IT- I DARE YOU!
