Kamarpukur happens to be the place of birth of Sri Ramkrishna. He was born here on February 17, 1836. There is a 45 ft high temple here which was built in 1951 with plan and design made by the famous artist, Nandalal Bose. Inside this temple there is a statue of Ramkrishna carved out of marble rock. There are various other temples which bear the memories of Sri Ramkrishna and his wife Saradadevi.

At the entrance to the Math (mission) stands Yogi Shiva temple, hallowed by tradition. Opposite lies the Haider Pool with its memories of Shri Ramakrishna. On the right of the math stands the house of the Lahas and the Pathshala or village school, Gopesh-war Shiva temple, Sitanath pynes house, Ramkrishna's loving patroness the ironmonger Dhani's house, birth place of Shrini-bas etc. You can see all this on foot in about an hour.

Kamarpukur is conncected by bus services with most of the important places like Calcutta, Howrah, Burdwan etc. From Calcutta it is hardly 3 hr journey by bus. For staying in the Ramkrishna Mission's guest house, rooms or dormitories can be booked by post on sending a reply card to the Secretary of the Mission. There is a tourist lodge whose room rents are Rs 40.00 and Rs 50.00 per day. The environment of the locality is very calm and quiet which is ideal for meditation.
