We were due to leave for New Zealand on Sunday, but we felt that there was still so much of Australia yet to explore. As a result, we extended our stay by 4 weeks and set out in a campervan for an outback adventure.....
Day 1:
off to the Blue Mountains
First stop the supermarket to stock up on all our camp needs (Dan has more than most - ha ha) i.e. tinned foods, plenty of reading material and a large crate of beer. Then off to the Blue Mountains, just West of Sydney, so named beacause of the blue haze given off by the Eucalyptus trees. We saw the famous 'Three Sisters' rock formation and then rushed down the many 'Furber Stairs' to the valley below, just in the nick of time to catch the last train of the day back to the top. It's a converted mine train, and is porportedly the steepest railway in the world - quite hair-raising! Our first night in the van was partially spent doing camper type things like making chilli on the gas stove and washing up in a bucket with the rest of the time spent working out how to set up the jigsaw puzzle of a bed! We had a surprisingly comfy nights sleep and are quite glad we've got our own little space for a while.
