There are a bunch of British pubs and eateries under the bridge, but they aren't open at 9am on a Sunday.

Well folks, just about the end of the story.  Last stop on my list of "things to do" was to visit the London Bridge.  For those who don't know, the London Bridge isn't in London anymore...it's in Lake Havasu City, AZ.  A massive, stone bridge built in 1831, it served the city of London well until they decided to replace it in 1968 with a more modern structure.  Apparently some wacky American oil tycoon heard about the project, and gave them the classic "if you're just throwing it out anyway, can I have it?" line.  He got it for $2,460,000.

It used to cross the Thames. Now it crosses a cheesy lake.

The rest of the day was driving, driving, driving.  As I crossed into California I got the standard stop for an "agricultural inspection."  No big deal...there was no way I could have stuffed any illegal immigrants into the Jeep with all the other stuff I was carrying.  But the inspector was quite surprised by the VA license plates.

When I left Kingman, the temperature was 31 F.  As I descended the Tehachapi mountains into Bakersfield, I watched the temperature climb to 80 F.  I had arrived.

Summary: 6 days, 5 nights, 3,250 miles, and...$317.40 for gas.  Flying is cheaper, but not as much fun.
