22.28 – It was a pretty long day today. We didn’t have to get up too early, eventually leaving at 10.30. I went to put my washing in the dryer although it turned out to be useless as it didn’t bloody spin! At least I got a good breakfast included in the money that I had paid. I am looking forward to going to the shop but mainly I want to use the internet but I will have to wait until I get to Gisborne before I get a chance I think. We had quite an eventful journey anyway. The first place we stopped was a track just off the main road where we planned to do a walk but after someone shouted out that it was private property we decided no to! A few stops later, we got to Te Araroa where we had some really nice fish and chips before setting off for the lighthouse on the furthest east point in New Zealand. Unfortunately though we had to walk 754 steps (that’s how many I counted anyway) to the top where the views were ok but not spectacular. From here we went to Rangitukia and the farm where we were staying. We collected some driftwood for a fire and then everyone else had a Hangi although I was content with my jam and bread! We stayed out until pretty late talking and drinking. There were marshmallows to eat as well. Eventually though it was time to call it a night and go to bed. Before this though we played a bit of table tennis and pool in a barn nearby.
