The sights of Salta

From My Journey begins in Salta, Argentina on Feb 23 '07

Salta is similar to European Cities, very colonial and i hear that it is the case in most places in Argentina. I thought it time after visiting the bars to visit the city during the day.

The first place that i went to see was the Cathedral.  I will never get tired of looking at the fine detail of these wonderful buildings.  Salta’s Cathedral is particularly beautiful with jaw dropping pictures on the ceiling and many statutes of our Lord and Lady beneath them, strangely enough.  Once again, as in Cusco, i had to sit down to take in what i had just seen but no mass this time.   You must be thinking that this is the same old same old, but really I am not bored, still finding these things amazing to see, (obviously easily pleased).

Yesterday i travelled a little outside of Salta to go horse riding at a family’s ranch.  I am so glad i went, it was so tranquille and calming beautiful countryside and wonderful company, it reminded me of home,  Perfect, just what i needed after being on the road for so long (well not that long but moving around a lot).  Although my muscles are suffering from it today.

My plan yesterday evening was to go to see the mountain San Bernado where you can overlook the city, but the heavens opened.  Me and my new English friends (my Chilean and Argentine mates left last night) Helen and Anna could not believe our eyes despite being from the UK.  The locals however, remained unaffected, even when the street turned into a river!  We did however manage to get a pizza delivered.

This morning the city was back to normal so Anna, Helen and myself made our way up the mountain which is 1,459 m above sea level.  What a beautiful sight it was, you can distinctively see the grid formation of the streets below.

After today I feel my time has come to leave Salta and move on, a lovely resting place it has been, so I booked my ticket to Cordoba which is in Central Argentina for 8 o´clock this evening.  I wonder what awaits me in the historic and apparently most catholic state in Argentina.
