The long & winding road
From Just getting ready - 1 day, 11 hrs & counting in Darjeeling, India on Dec 17 '06
After very little or no sleep in Delhi we found ourselves at the Delhi domestic airport to catch our 4 hour flight to Bagdogra. We hired a taxi to take us to 'Darjeeling using the government taxi booth. The driver was very nice and full of iunresting information. The drive through Bagdogra was busy and beautiful. The people there were very busy working in the shops on the road, there were also may shcool children on thier way home, all were wearing uniforms.
On the way up the road we say a monkey, school children with little carts to race down the road (crazy!) & the toy train. I am glad we opted to get a cab rather then take the train.
After very little or no sleep in Delhi we found ourselves at the Delhi domestic airport to catch our 4 hour flight to Bagdogra.
After a long a twisty ride up the hills and through several towns we arrived in Darjeeling. We found a room at a very nice, expensive hotel (more than we wanted to spend- still $20/night... hey it was dark and we were completely exhaused). Then we locked up our gear and went in pursut of food as we had not eaten anything since the plane trip. Dinner was good. I (Heather) started feeling the efects of lack of sleep in combination with the Malarone and needed to sleep NOW. We went back to the hotel and got instuctions on how to flush out toilet as we had failed to figure this out earlier. And aftter the lady whol looks after the lodge finished making up our beds (she was stressing because she didnt have enough quilts untill we told her we had sleeping bags) went to sleep.
We woke up this morning feeling refreshed and set out to see the town. We just finished breakfast at Glenary's Cake Shop. Now to see the town, and shop.
